MONACO: Mawoma Festival Launch

AMADE and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra are partners of MAWOMA, the first itinerant festival dedicated to female conductors.

MAWOMA (Music and WOman MAESTRO Festival), one continent, one city, one female conductor - Launches its Gala on the 12th and 13th of November 2016, at the Monaco Yacht Club.

The MAWOMA Festival (www.mawoma-festival.com) is a classical music program featuring internationally renowned performers whose mission is to convey and promote the universality of music.

MAWOMA is a traveling festival that discovers young women destined to become conductors. Through their international journey, the festival aims to reveal young talent on each continent and to promote them until their final reveal in Monaco.

Female conductors are rare, which is why the founder of MAWOMA, Clémence GUERRAND, herself a pianist, has decided to dedicate this festival to women in order to give them the opportunity to lead the most prestigious orchestras. A female conductor has symbolic value. She is not dominant, but guiding.

MAWOMA has also chosen to commit itself to the protection and development of children, in particular young girls, along with AMADE, by specifically supporting the project implemented in Kinshasa regarding the care of young girls accused of witchcraft.

This weekend, the launch - organized in collaboration with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and hosted by Mrs. Sylvana LORENZ, brought together personalities from the art, culture and business worlds. Guests had the pleasure of attending a recital by Mrs. Natalie DESSAY, soprano, accompanied by Henri DEMARQUETTE (cello) and Mr. Philippe CASSARD (piano).

Zahia ZIOUANI, the first female conductor to be honored, wished to epxress her support of the festival, which is so representative of our society and of the world of music in particular, who continue to neglect the place of women.

Guillaume PELLOUX, a collage artist, chose to make and offer a special piece dedicated to the event, "Hymn to Life", as part of the "Happy Maestro" operation, the product of which was wholly allocated to AMADE's project in Kinshasa.

Olivier DASSAULT also wanted to associate himself with the "Happy Maestro" operation by offering one of his photographic works, as did other partners such as Relais & Châteaux, Djula Joaillerie Paris, Porthault linens, gourmet restaurants Akrame and Il Vino, the Charriol Geneva watch house, Ladurée, Monte-Carlo Metropolitan Hotel, Boutsen Design, New Horizons travel designer or Tany Heath shoes.

Patrick POIVRE D'ARVOR added a poetic moment to this event by using his voice, so familiar to francophones, at the service of masterpieces of poetry.

The MAWOMA Festival received the support of the magazine La Tribune. Its President Mr Jean-Christophe TORTORA wished to become a partner of this initiative, with its initiatives and efforts for women, values that the magazine wishes to highlight in 2017 alongside the BPI (Public Investment Bank).

The Festivals next steps: Paris, Tunis, Saint-Petersburg, New-York, Kinshasa, Sao-Paulo... before returning to the Principality on 18th January 2018.
